Tips for neighbor-friendly BBQ'ing

The city of Rotterdam started a campaign in the summer of 2022 to raise awareness of this. Here are some tips for neighbor-friendly BBQing:

  • Use a custom BBQ. The bigger the BBQ, the more fuel you will need.
  • Choose the right fuel. Coconut briquettes and brown firelighters are more environmentally friendly than white firelighters.
  • Try an electric or gas barbecue. It smokes a lot less than charcoal.
  • Catch the fat and marinade. This ensures less smoke development.
  • Take the wind direction into account. This will limit the smoke nuisance for yourself and your neighbours.
