Provide sufficient bicycle parking
You tackle the following challenges:
That's how you do it
By providing sufficient bicycle parking, students, employees and visitors can park their bicycles safely and you encourage them to move sustainably.
Measures that encourage people to cycle or walk not only have a positive impact on health by reducing air pollution. They also provide more exercise, in any case healthier than a trip by car, scooter or bus. Research shows that the positive health effects of exercise outweigh the health risks — traffic accidents or exposure to air pollution.

Groningen has an outspoken bicycle policy and this is bearing fruit. A new challenge is bicycle parking. This calls for creative solutions, such as installing rush hour racks in the city centre, mainly at weekends and at other busy times. In combination with this, red carpets are also laid at the entrance of shops or public buildings to deter wild parkers. A fairly simple measure that turns out to be very effective.
The Velo system in Antwerp is intended for short, functional bicycle trips within the city. The first half hour of a ride is free, for the rest of the time you use an annual pass, week pass or day pass. There are 4,000 shared bicycles and 300 bicycle stations within walking distance of each other (maximum 400 meters), in the vicinity of mobility hubs (tram and bus stops, train stations, car parks) and important attraction poles.
