The goal is clear: better air quality for our cities. With six dedicated partners on board, we bring together traffic counts and air quality measurements to not only detect and measure air pollution, but also to understand the effects of our mobility choices. Classroom to better air quality and sustainable transport Since 2021, the VMM has been participating in the European Horizon 2020 project COMPAIR. This project develops technology tailored to citizens and local policymakers and experiments with them to increase the impact of measures and behavioral change. The VMM plays a crucial role in technological development and the development of a more effective air policy based on the data obtained. In addition, the VMM stimulates the involvement of citizens and monitors behavioral changes. The Dynamic Exposure Visualization Dashboard (DEV-D) 20 March 2024 On this dashboard we display the journeys recorded via the DEVA, in combination with air quality data measured with mobile sensors or calculated via a model Dynamic Exposure Visualization App (DEVA) 20 March 2024 The DEVA (Dynamic Exposure Visualisation App) allows you to explore air quality and traffic congestion in your area in various ways. COMPAIR project 3 April 2023 The VMM is a partner of the European COMPAIR project, which collects data on traffic flows and air quality through citizen science. In the project, the VMM helps local authorities to choose air quality sensors and citizens to easily measure the air quality in their neighbourhood with the sensor. Farmers and Neighbors In the Boeren en Buren project, farmers, local residents and the municipality of Venray, under the supervision of RIVM, jointly measure air quality. Citizen scientists Land van Cuijk In 2019, residents of the municipality of Sint-Anthonis started measuring particulate matter. They call themselves the Citizen Scientists of Land van Cuijk (BwLvC). With the support of local politicians, they have placed MySense measurement sets at 16 locations in the municipality. Join in Spring Skies A citizen monitoring network for particulate matter is being set up in Lent by the Air Quality working group of the Lent district council. Air quality in Maastricht In recent years, residents of Maastricht have taken nitrogen measurements. This citizen measurement project now continues with measurements for particulate matter. The residents use particulate matter sensors to measure the local concentration of PM2.5 and PM1. This makes the project a good example of an initiative for the Clean Air Agreement (SLA). Our Air - Measuring particulate matter yourself in the Northern Netherlands In this project, residents from all over the Northern Netherlands are building their own particulate matter meters in order to jointly investigate the air quality in the region. Join in Regional monitoring network South-East Brabant (ILM) Air quality is measured throughout Southeast Brabant using a regional monitoring network. The aim is to gain insight into the concentration and sources of air pollution and to promote clean air on that basis. Measuring wood smoke together Interest in wood burning as a source of air pollution is increasing. This is also the case in the Measuring Together community. There are several citizen projects in which air quality measurements are linked to wood burning. Some are highlighted on this page. Measuring air quality together in South Holland For several years now, the province of South Holland has been helping citizens' initiatives to measure air quality themselves. It makes measuring equipment available and supports the measuring itself. The province is working together with the RIVM and the DCMR Rijnmond Environmental Service.
