It is well established that solid noise barriers can also reduce the concentration of air pollutants, just like green barriers . As a result, there is often less pollution just behind the noise barrier, but possibly an increase further on. The placement of noise barriers must therefore be carefully considered. Possible objections to this measure are the implementation costs, lack of space and opposition from the population.
